Wounds Of Weekends

by Jo Hayes

"Here’s the scrape where I fell
Over on the bike path.
There’s the gash on my shin
From football.
All these things really caned,
But I did not care because
I was having fun.
Playing at the muddy beach
Slipping ‘n’ sliding all over the shop
Me and Charlie
Slinging mud at each other,
Getting drenched in the stuff,
Oh well, its all good fun, that’s it.
Doesn’t seem to matter how
Gross
Or mucky
Or painful it is
Its still fun.
More fun than anything,
No matter what it is
The clothes that got ripped,
The scabs on the knee
These are wounds of weekends or memories."
