A True Poet

by Isabelle Joussemet, Bangkok Patama School, Thailand

"The music started loudly
Building up the mood,
The curtains opened swiftly,
And there bold Benji stood.

At first we saw the dreadlocks
As something really weird,
But soon his friendly manner
Overcame our fears.

His rap came from Jamaica,
His words came from his heart,
It touch us all directly,
Like a slim, streaming dart.

He talked about his mummy,
He talked about his dad,
He talked about his country
And the childhood he'd had.

The Christmas Turkey poem
Came as a surprise,
Now I vote for Turkey for Freedom,
And happy turkey lives.

The way he read his poems
The words kept in his mind,
Something clicked deep inside us
That everyone could find.

Now I've read many poems,
And I know what I like,
So Benji I think you've got it
I think you've got it right.

Good luck with your money,
Good luck with your life,
You've taught me something true,
There's so much more to life

Than Reality."
