Review of Refugee Boy
by Stoke Newington students (UK), Year 7
Latrice Reid
I liked the story for many different reasons. It was interesting because it made me see that not all refugees are the same, they're not all poor and dirty.
I like the bit where they had to go shopping and they got humiliated because they had no money and had to use vouchers, it showed how cruel the system is.
I found it inspiring when all the children had the campaign to keep Alem back in the country.
Finn Ryan
It provides an excellent insight into the life of a refugee in England. I liked the way it was told mostly from Alem's point of view, it shows his strong emotions and how he bottles them up in this weird country.
In my primary shcool we had some refugees, they just turned up and we didn't know anything about them. This book shows what's happened to them and how they've rehabilitated themselves.
